Natural Remedies for Popular Prescription Drugs

If you’re in recovery, or you don’t like taking medication, you’re probably looking for an alternative way to reduce health problems. So, how do you heal without medication? Are there safe, natural remedies that work to improve your health and body?

natural remedies

Every day, 2,500 teenagers age 12-17 abuse a prescription pain reliever for the first time.

There are tons of natural remedies, from oils to nature and meditating. But, what natural remedy works with what type of feeling? People get sick, they get in accidents, get infections, have high blood pressure, or have sore muscles. What natural remedies work with each problem? Let’s take a look.

     Pain Relief (Vicodin);

    Pain medication really just masks the pain and doesn’t fix the underlying problem. Instead of taking medication like Vicodin for pain management, seek a professional healer. Chiropractors are professionals who work primarily with the body and relieving aches and pains. Science claims that people who attended 4 chiropractic treatment plans for lower back within 2 weeks showed greater improvement compared to those who sought usual care.

    High Cholesterol (Zocor, Lipitor);

    Pharmacies sell more than 45 thousand Lipitor medications alone every year. Instead of taking prescriptions for high cholesterol, just change your diet around. A bad diet is the primary cause. Oats, garlic, and olive oil can help reduce inflammation in your body and lower “bad” LDL cholesterol. Garlic contains an amino acid called allicin, which is released when garlic is crushed. Allicin keeps cholesterol from sticking to artery walls by protecting your heart.

    High Blood Pressure (Zestril, Norvasc);

    More than 144 million high blood pressure prescriptions are filled every year. High blood pressure medication does help and is encouraged, but you might be able to cut back on dosage or stop taking them completely. Increasing potassium and magnesium are key components to lowering your blood pressure. This can include bananas, tomato juice, or coconut water. You can also substitute your medication for Coenzyme Q10, which is an antioxidant that could help lower blood pressure. Enzymatic Therapy or Integrative Therapeutics brands are high quality and most effective.

    Depression (Zoloft);

    Depression is an unfortunate thing to feel, but there are ways to reduce it naturally. Eating fish, or consuming omega-3s in your diet will help your depression. Eating seafood 2+ times a week may be linked with a 50% lower rate of depression. You can also try a daily teaspoon of cod liver oil for your dosage of omega-3, or try eating low-mercury fish twice a week. Other fish options can include a grilled salmon, tuna salad, or sardines. If fish is not your thing, you can substitute it for leafy greens and seeds such as flax or pumpkin, walnuts, and free range meats and dairy.

    Anxiety (Xanax);

    Anxiety is a problem with many people, but there are natural remedies you can do instead of taking prescription drugs for it. Some solutions include writing in a journal and sharing your thoughts, gratitudes, challenges and life changes. You can also pray, meditate, or do some yoga to relieve stress and anxiety. Being outside in the sun or in nature can also reduce stress levels.

    Insomnia (Ambien);

    Insomnia happens when you have a hard time falling asleep. There can be many reasons why it’s hard, and usually doctors will prescribe Ambien to help. If you don’t want to take prescription drugs, you can try drinking tea that helps with sleep. You can find several tea brands at local stores that help. Some of my favorites are Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime Tea, and Yogi Bedtime Tea. You can find those at any store that sells tea. You can also try meditating or doing yoga before bed to calm nerves. Working out right before bed helps so you’ll be tired and ready to relax.

Consult Your Doctor

If you’re taking medications or have a health problem, please consult your doctor. Your doctor knows you best and can give you an assessment of what’s best for you to do. They can also suggest other natural remedies that I didn’t explain in the list above.
